1906 Benjamin Franklin Birth Bicentennial Medal. Bronze. 100.4 mm. By Augustus and Louis Saint-Gaudens. Greenslet GM-119. Rarity-7. Mint State.,Deep bronze patina overall, that trends just a bit lighter on the highest points, while darker olive highlights are noted in the protected recesses. A lovely piece with the aesthetic expected of a century old art bronze, and the first example of the United States Mint variant that we have offered in many years. Authorized by Congress, medals of this type were originally struck by the United States Mint in Philadelphia for distribution to subscribers from the American Philosophical Society. A more common version for general sale was offered by Tiffany & Company, whose imprint is found on the edge of their otherwise identical issue. By Augustus and Louis Saint-Gaudens, whose combined monogram is found on the lower left of the reverse. This medal is regarded as one of the most beautiful and rare modern Franklin medals, as impressive for its size and heft as it is for its beautifully rendered design.,From The Howard B. Teich Collection.,
