SinkiangRussian Post OfficeKuldja1900 (9 May) opened-out red band cover registered to Tientsin bearing, on the reverse, Arms 14k. tied by a fine strike of type K5A code "1" c.d.s. and with the Russian registration label KR2 and the despatch c.d.s. (10.5) on the address side. Marked to be sent via Troitskosavsk but sent via Semipalatinsk in Kazakhstan (19.5), Krasnoyassk in Russia (27.5) and Transbaikal Train P.O. (1.6). This letter arrived in Peking during the Boxer Rebellion and bears a fine strike of the rare boxed Peking handstamp with manuscript date (18.8). A delightful and desirable cover, the hand-make Peking datestamp was only introduced after the the siege of the legations was lifted on 14th August and very few examples have been recorded. Photo
