1817/1817. Bust of Carlos IV. Light silver gray with golden toning around the rims and some traces of persistent luster in protected areas. Struck on a somewhat crude incomplete planchet that leaves DEI GRA close to the rim and the assayer initials nearly absent. The boldly repunched date, one of the most notable varieties in the series, is easy to see. Hairlines are noted on both sides, and some central granularity is seen under magnification. Murias lacked this elusive variety. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian and Ecuadorian Coins.
