KM-385; LMB-P517. From a reported mintage of 3,039 pieces for 1832-33. A magnificent example with needle sharp strike giving excellent definition to the fine details completely obliterating any trace of the undertype. Fully lustrous with light attractive tone throughout and hints of blue, green and golden hues in the peripheries at about 11 oclock to about 3 oclock of the obverse. In the 1810s, the Brazilian regime made enormous profits by purchasing Spanish colonial eight reales for about 870 réis and striking them into 960 réis. By the early 1830s, the price of the coins had risen above 960 réis, removing the incentive for further manufacture. NGC MS-65. Ex: D. Moore Collection.
