Seleukid Kings of Syria. Antiochos XIII Asiatikos (66/6-64 BC). AR Tetradrachm. Antioch. 15.54 gms. Diademed head right, rev. Zeus Nikephoros enthroned left, MA monogram inner left, P monogram below throne. SNG Spaer 2919, Newell SMA 460. Rare. Following the withdrawal of Tigranes II from Syria, Rome placed Antiochos XIII on the Seleukid throne. He would essentially be the last of the Seleukid kings, and his brief and turbulent reign came to an end when Pompey had him deposed and then killed by his Emesan client-king. Syria then became a Roman province. Very Fine.
