Struck by John and Obadiah Westwood in England, the Washington Large Eagle cents were made to the order of John and Thomas Ketland, Philadelphia, and were intended to support their bid for a coinage contract for the new nation. Although these pieces undoubtedly influenced both Congress and the American public, the Ketlands failed to secure the contract and, in the end, the federal government established its own mint.,PCGS# 702.
