1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 61-p, W-5345. Rarity-5. Large Planchet, Plain Shield, PLURIBS. VF-30 (PCGS).,151.1 grains. This is an important specimen of a notable rarity, the scarcer of the two Large Planchet varieties to carry the distinctive PLURIBS blunder in the reverse legend. Very attractive chocolate brown with faint granularity that still shows good gloss. Boldly struck and nearly perfectly centered, the dentils are soft beside date and off the planchet atop the reverse. A little bit of surface verdigris is noted left of the shield, another tiny patch above C of CAESAREA, no real flaws otherwise. Though not a condition census example, this is a superb mid-grade coin, rolling up attractiveness, rarity and pedigree in one New Jersey copper.,PCGS# 512.
