1877-S Liberty Head Double Eagle. MS-62 (PCGS). CAC.,This is an overall fully struck double eagle with satiny rose and orange-gold luster throughout. The 1877-S has a mintage of 1,735,000 pieces, down some 138,000 pieces from the previous year. Some portion of the mintage made it into overseas banking transactions, a familiar scenario in the Type III Liberty Head double eagle series, and a blessing to later generations of numismatists. The present example is one of perhaps 1,500 to 2,500 Uncirculated survivors, although it is finer than the typically offered MS-60 or MS-61.,PCGS# 8984. NGC ID: 26B2.,,Ex Larry Hanks, August 1997; our sale of the Gilded Age Collection, August 2014, lot 12062.
