1852-D Liberty Head Half Eagle. AU-58 (PCGS).,An impressive condition rarity that would do justice to an advanced Southern gold collection. Warmly patinated in orange-gold, both sides are satiny in texture with considerable luster remaining. The reverse is the better struck of the two sides with particularly impressive definition to the eagles plumage, although the obverse is suitably bold apart from softness to many of the stars and the hair curls over Libertys brow. Generally minor handling marks are commensurate with the grade for a lightly circulated gold coin from the Dahlonega Mint. With the second highest mintage (91,584 pieces) among half eagles from this coinage facility, the 1852-D is one of the more frequently encountered Dahlonega Mint fives in todays market. Few survivors grade finer than EF, however, and with only a handful of Mint State coins extant the significance of this lovely Choice AU can hardly be overstated.,PCGS# 8252. NGC ID: 25UC.,PCGS Population: 13; 9 finer (MS-63 finest).,From the Alexander Collection. Collector envelope included.
