Fr. 1133-C. 1918 $1000 Federal Reserve Note. Philadelphia. PMG About Uncirculated 53 EPQ.,A highlight lot within this session and a newly discovered serial number which pushes the total known for the catalog number to just 14 pieces. The previous thirteen serial numbers recorded for this Philadelphia District mostly consist of a small run of high grade examples and a grouping of low numbered notes with the former being within this notes serial range and the later including a trio forever impounded in institutional collections. The design utilized for this high denomination type is quite impressive with Hamilton shown at center and large 1000 counters at all corners. The familiar blue overprints for the series are seen along with a Burke - Glass signature combination. The important reverse shows a prominent vignette of our National bird with wings spread and impressive 1000 counter flanking with super imposed dollar signs.<p>The quality is a main focus with this offering as it is from a small run of higher grade pieces with this note being the lowest serial number of the group. A quick look at the PMG population report reveals just two pieces have achieved an Uncirculated grade with a Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ and Choice Uncirculated 63 note illustrated. From there just a pair of About Uncirculated notes are found in that range according to PMG with a single About Uncirculated 55 note and this About Uncirculated 53 EPQ offering. An important note is that although three graded finer than this piece by number just a single piece grades finer which also caries the coveted "EPQ," designation which this piece also possesses. A highly important opportunity as the other known high grade PMG "EPQ," note is likely tightly held and will not see a public offering in the near future.
