1825 John Quincy Adams Indian Peace Medal. Bronze. 76 mm. Julian IP-11. First Reverse. MS-65BN (NGC).,Lovely light brown copper with nuances of faint golden toning. A few light lines in the surface oils, but no major marks as one would anticipate from the grade assigned. What might appear to be nicks on the forehead and above the date look to be small strike throughs upon close inspection. This piece was struck using the original reverse, dating this impression to between late 1825 and 1846. Light die rust pits on the reverse suggest this to be from later in this period. In addition, a small die break on the obverse is seen crossing the rim and C of QUINCY, extending faintly to the back of the shoulder.Donated by Stanley DeForest Scott to benefit the endowment campaign for the Executive Director position at the American Numismatic Society.
