Rapidan, Virginia. G. F. Carver. October 4, 1861. 10 Cents. Very Good.(Jones-Littlefield PR20-Unlisted) No imprint. Native American woman standing with woman kneeling at left. This 10 Cent note differs from the PR20-04 example plated on page 178 of the Virginia reference. This example also does not feature "Culpeper" in the place name. These notes were payable in "Virginia Bank Notes" when presented in sums of five dollars. All notes from this issuer are listed as R-7 in the Jones-Littlefield tome. The example here faces up nicely with still bold inks. The thin paper does display small edge nicks and internal areas of weakness. A very rare Virginia scrip piece. From lot 1869 of the 1992 R.M. Smythe Auction #104.From a Culpeper, Virginia Collection.
