Columbia, North Carolina. County of Tyrrell. 1861. 25 Cents. Very Fine. Remainder.A boldly inked remainder note from this Eastern North Carolina county issuer. Tyrrell County sits on the southern shore of the Albemarle Sound and is home to just around 4,000 residents. Columbia, the county seat, has a population of just over 800. In 1861 the county was actually made up of present day Tyrrell, Martin, Washington and Dare counties and was home to a number of large plantations. There is a small internal split seen along with some handwritten arithmetic on the back.
