GUATEMALA. 8 Escudos, 1789-M. NGC EF-45.Fr-14; KM-49; Onza-972 (plate coin). Bust of Charles III, legend reads "Carol IV". VERY RARE two year type. Excellent strike defining even the most intricate portions of the design. Moderate even wear throughout with plenty of remaining details to the bust and crowned arms consistent with the grade. Luster in the protected areas of the legend with lovely honey-gold tone in the open fields which deepens towards the edges and soft rose on the high points. Clearly an example which sat for a prolonged period of time undisturbed. Quite attractive with great eye appeal. From the Richard Stuart Collection.
