Fr. 2097-A. 2013 $20 Federal Reserve Note. Boston. PCGS Extremely Fine 40 PPQ. Mismatched Serial Numbers.Common logic would lead one to believe that older errors are rarer and more valuable than modern misprints. However, it is quite the opposite when talking about mismatches. We have been spoiled by the large availability of 1957B $1 silver mismatches; and some other older small head federal reserve note mismatches are relatively plentiful. But any mismatch specialist can tell you that finding a modern big head mismatched serial number is quite tough. In fact, we could only find a couple of auction results for any $20 mismatch from 1996 and newer. Of the meager sample we could find, both of those were single digit mismatches. The note offered here is a double-digit mismatch. A premium should certainly be added for that extra pizzazz. It is our understanding that the BEP has technology in place now that makes mismatches easy to catch before release. That is why they are so rare today, but other overprints and related errors are still found at a high frequency. MA 54552690B/ MA54547690B.
