拍品描述 T-1. Confederate Currency. 1861 $1000. PMG Extremely Fine 40 Net. Repaired.No. 59. Plate A. One of the earliest acquired notes in the collection, this beautiful T-1 $1000 was purchased directly from Grover Criswell in the 1960s and has been off of the market ever sense.

This National Bank Note Company produced note was issued from New Orleans on June 17th, 1861 by Assistant Confederate Treasurer A.J. Guirot as seen through the neatly penned manuscript on the back of the note. The printed inks are sharply presented with the portraits of John C. Calhoun and Andrew Jackson seen in excellent detail.

The intricate green tint that these Montgomery notes are so well known for is vibrant and boldly inked. Neatly penned issuing signatures of Register Alex B. Clitherall and Treasurer Edward C. Elmore are observed on the face. The cut is tight but not into the design as is usually seen for this type.

The uncancelled paper is mostly bright. PMG has noted "Repaired" on the back of the holder. There is well executed restoration around the handwritten "May" on the face and in the upper right counter. Just 607 examples of this type were issued and today less than 150 are known to survive. This example is among the most desirable notes available in terms of condition and overall aesthetic appeal. From The Cleo Collection of Confederate Paper Money.
