CHINA. Kwangtung. 7 Mace 2 Candareens (Dollar), ND (1891).L&M-133; Kann-26; Y-203. This coin represents the first Kwangtung 7 Mace 2 Candareens (Dollar) struck with corrected legends. The first two issues of Kwangtung came to be known as the "Reversed Pattern" series due to the Chinese and English legends being reversed from what later became standard.
However, they were met with general unacceptance as authorities believed the Chinese and English legends should be alternated to the opposite sides of the coins. Neither of the first two "Reversed Pattern" coinage saw mass circulation as they were struck in limited quantities. In fact, the second of the two was struck on a trial basis and not intended for circulation.
Minor set backs and a series of minor corrections brought forth an evolution that lead to the design of the coin offered here. This type became the first of the Kwangtung series to be mass produced and see extended time circulation. This example is struck in Specimen or special presentation Proof form and possibly on of the first coins struck of this type.
EXTREMELY RARE. Sharply struck with full details, semi mirror-like surfaces, brilliant white with a hint of toning.NGC SP-64.
