孙像三帆民国18年壹圆意大利 NGC UNC-Details Stained
CHINA. Pattern Dollar Struck in Silver, Year 18 (1929).L&M-92; Kann-614; KM-Pn97; Hsu-89. Design from Italy at the
Rome Mint. In 1929 the Chinese Ministry of Finance ordered a new design for the then proposed Dr. Sun Yat Sen Dollar. Patterns were submitted from five of the worlds leading mints: Italy, Japan, England, United States, and Austria. This represents the second of the two Italian proposals. Virtually identical to the first proposal, however the Rome Mint mark (R) and engravers name (A.MOTTI.INC.) have been removed from the dies. Although Mottis initial design was rejected, the obverse design was later modified and this portrait served as the basic model for what was used to produce the first Dr. Sun Yat Sen Junk Dollars for circulation in 1932. RARE, one of the most important patterns in the Junk Dollar series. Purchased February 1960 from Leonard. Somewhat uneven toning as a result of being stored in a paper envelope for many years.NGC UNC Details--Stained.
