CHINA. Fookien. Changchow Military Ration Dollar, (1844).L&M-290; Kann-5c (plate coin); Wenchao-pg.183#197 (plate coin), (rarity five stars, the highest rarity given); H. Chang-CH153 (plate coin). Diagonal edge reeding with diamond shaped security mark applied in edge at 2 Oclock. This type was issued to pay military expenses as is expressed on the obverse, character “Zeng” below. The reverse reads “Sufficiently Pure Silver for Circulation”. Normally found in average condition and chop marked.
This coin is of exceptional quality, attractive blue-grey toning with golden highlights. Remarkable in that the surfaces are completely free of chop marks, and RARE as such. The plate coin in three major reference books.NGC AU-50.Wa She Wong Collection
