CHINA--EMPIRE. Board of Revenue. 50 Taels, Year 4 (1854). P-A13b.(S/M#H176-14) This striking Board of Revenue note is a piece which will very rarely be seen by even the most involved in the hobby. It is the highest denomination for the Tael issue and certainly the most appealing as the large format allows great detail of the design. It is the first of the catalog number we have handled with the 10 Taels note being the previous highest denomination crossing our hands. A note which is likely missing from even some of the most comprehensive collections.
Highly impressive detail is seen at the deep blue bordering design from a strong impression. The dragons show tremendous clarity along with the depicted waves at the lower border. Pleasing red stamps and overprinted characters are noticed as well. A stain at center, small paper pull at upper right and typical spindle hole are all we mention beyond typical circulation. Nearly EF and surely among the finest of the few available. Bid accordinglyPMG Choice Very Fine 35
