CHINA. Kiau Chau. 10 Cents, 1909. Berlin Mint Proof.K-872; Y-2; Hsu-38. According to Kann, the Kiau Chau copper-nickel 5 and 10 cents entered circulation in October of 1909. Although generally this issue was met with acceptance, it remained short lived. The German involvement in World War I found the port of Kiau Chau under Japanese and British siege on August 27th, 1914. The siege ended November 7th and Kiau Chau remained under Japanese possession until it was returned to China in 1922. Approximately 670,000 of the 10 cents were issued for circulation. However, Proof strikes were produced in very small quantities and should be considered VERY RARE. <br /> Beautiful mirror-like Brilliant Proof.NGC PROOF-64.
