咸丰十年户部官票五十两 PMG Choice F 15
CHINA--EMPIRE. Board of Revenue. 50 Taels, Yr. 4 (1854). P-A13b.(S/M#H176-14) One of the most important offerings among this highly comprehensive Chinese banknote offering and a piece which will highlight any collection it enters. Only one of a scant few we have ever handled and one that shows stunning appeal for the technical grade. The note is of a very large vertical format showing the common for the series bordering design.
Dragons are seen at left, right and top with turbulent ocean below. Large square stamped seals positioned over denomination at lower center and also at left right and lower areas. Mostly problem free save for some pinholes seen at upper center which are noted by PMG in the comments section of the holder. We last handled this same series date and denomination in our August 2011 sale which highlighted the entire paper money section bringing an astonishing $119,500.00 as lot 80033. PMG has graded only two examples of this denomination to date with both the item offered here and the piece we sold last August. Truly a rare publicly offered opportunity to acquire this stellar type.PMG Choice Fine 15
