CHINA--REPUBLIC. Bank of Communications. 500 Yuan, 1941. P-163.(S/M#C126-263) This design is among many collectors favorites and always generates great interest when offered in any form. The note shows here as the finest we have handled with only a few touches of circulation observed. Simply radiant inks make up the detailed central vignette of an ocean liner at port and tugboats in foreground. Multi-color under-printing contrasts nicely to the deep blue frame and ornate guilloches are noticed at left and right. The verso is another vignette which is favored by many collectors with a magnificent countryside view with high current power lines spanning a passenger train. Detailed geometric lathe work is observed in heavy amounts and ample white space increases the appeal. PMG mentions rust in the comments section of the holder which is observed as a paper clip mark noticed at the upper right of the back. We feel however that the previously mentioned flaw is quite trivial and does not impede against the appeal. The best we have previously handed prior to this offering was a Fine-Very Fine note which brought $2,270.00 as lot 80060 in our August 2011 Hong Kong auction. An important opportunity.PMG About Uncirculated 55 Net Rust.
