Lot 1000 TIBET: AR tangka 404。82g41, ND [1953-54]。 Y-31。 Struck in 1953-54, EF, ex Hans Mondorf Collection。An undated silver coin in the style of the earlier ga-den tangkas was struck on modern coin presses in 1953 and 1954 for distribution-monks. It is the last silver coin which was issued in Tibet and it circulated at the value of 5 srang although its design is that of a tangka. The reverse depicts a wheel with eight spokes representing the "wheel of law" which was set in motion by the Buddha. In the center of the wheel two comma-shaped elements represent what the Tibetans call norbu dga' khyil ('whorling jewel of joy'). This coin was struck in high grade silver and had the popular name tangka dkar-po gsar pa ('new white tangka').
