FRENCH INDO-CHINA. Complete Proof Set, 1889. Paris Mint.;KM-Ps1; Lec-313; Gad-1, 5, 15, 23, 31 & 34. 6 pieces in set, with original box. These original sets were produced for sale at the Exposition Universalle of 1889 (Paris Worlds Fair). The Exposition Universalle remains one of the best known Worlds Fair as it was made famous for its iconic entrance arch, the Eiffel Tower. From a mintage of only 100 pieces. It is EXTREMELY RARE for one of these sets to have remained intact and complete, especially so with the original box. The overall quality of the set is quite superb and fairly uniform as the coins clearly sat for years untouched in their blue velvet lined box allowing them to naturally tone. The overall toning is quite attractive and evenly matched with the exception of the obverse of the 20 Cent and the reverse of the 10 Cent which are a bit darker, the coppers are choice red and brown. Grades: 2 Sapeque NGC PROOF-64 RB, 1 Cent NGC PROOF-65 RB, 20 Cent NGC PROOF-63; and the 10 Cent, 50 Cent and Piastre are;NGC PROOF-65.
