Large under-printed letters at top center spell out "GOLD" which was implemented to instill confidence in the holders eyes. The luminous orange printed reverse design depicts our national bird in flight clutching our nations colors. A large roman numeral "D" at left clarifies the denomination. All large-size notes above the $100 denomination are rare and become immediate focal points in any collection they become part of.
PMG has graded just a single finer piece than this offering per their population report and this D33263 numbered example is the only at this Choice Very Fine level. The Ruby red small scalloped treasury seal compliments the blue serial numbers and create lovely contrast to white paper. Locating examples of this note with the appeal presented here is rare and particularly so when offered without any restorations.
Large borders help frame the design and light even circulation give the appeal of an Extremely Fine note. Just a pair of pinholes in the portrait are mentioned by us and PMG in the comments section of the holder. The last we sold in a comparable condition was one of three PMG Very Fine 30 graded notes which brought $39,656 in our March 2014 sale.
