1873 Two-Cent Piece. Close 3. Proof-65 BN (PCGS).;Richly original copper brown surfaces with iridescent cobalt blue, antique gold and deep rose undertones. The original finish remains lively, both it and the razor sharp striking detail fully appreciable in the absence of even trivial distractions. The 1873 is the final two-cent issue, and it is a Proof-only affair known with both Close 3 and Open 3 date logotypes. The former are the originals of the date, as here, while the latter are thought to be restrikes. This is an uncommonly well preserved and attractive Gem that makes a lovely impression in all regards.
