1824/2 Matron Head Cent. N-1. Rarity-1. AU-53 (PCGS).;Gently mottled deep mahogany brown and steel and quite uniform in this respect throughout, though the reverse shows some very slight microscopic roughness in places. Nicely struck with sharp central details. Die wear and a slight misalignment have affected the strength of the dentils in this state, though an obvious partial inner circle remains on the obverse.<p>A somewhat advanced die state, but in terms of quality this piece is quite similar to the coin sold in Part I of the Twin Leaf Collection as lot 2114. That piece graded higher at PCGS and had slightly better surfaces, but our EAC grade (EF-45) is the same. Noyes Die State C/B.;Ex Clinton Hollins, February 1982; Jack H.
