1811 Capped Bust Left Half Eagle. BD-2. Rarity-3. Small 5. MS-62 (PCGS).;Virtually full in strike, this premium quality 1811 half eagle also has intense satin luster on both sides. Attractive golden yellow patina is noted as well. Just under 100,000 half eagles were struck in 1811 from two die pairings. Identified through the small 5 in the reverse denomination, the BD-2 is only marginally more available than the BD-1. One particular feature is the reverse die rotated by some 30 degrees. The obverse die was in its later stages of utility and is lapped and bears traces of die clashing, which later become more severe. The reverse is fresh for the most part, only receiving clash marks later in its use. This lovely example fits well with tonights superlative offering of half eagles and will hold great appeal for specialists in early American gold coins.;
