Following the overthrow of the Manchu Dynasty in 1911, Huang Xing set up the Nanjing Provisional Government in April of 1912. Yuan Shih-kai subsequently became the President of the new Chinese Republic and announced in June of 1912 the abolition of the Nanjing Provisional Government.
