Dav-4820a; KM-490; cf.Resch-241. VERY RARE hexagonal Klippe Taler. Struck towards the end of Transylvanian autonomy from the Hapsburg Holy Roman Empire. The vassal prince is rendered in full detail showing virtually every rivet and spot of decoration on his richly adorned armor. The reverse is equally as impressive with all of the quintessential elements found on Transylvanian coins, the sun and the moon are both present and fully in relief, all seven castles show their windows and battlements and the eagle with upturned wings has every feather raised. Handled with great care through the years only a few small points of mild even wear can be found and are confined to only the highest points of relief, namely the obverse hand and scepter and reverse central helmet. Handsome medium toning completes the package with light hints of dusty rose and orange blossom in most of the central areas and subdued blues in the outer points of the planchet. A fantastic rarity which is not offered with any sort of regularity..PCGS AU-55 Secure Holder..PCGS #711263..
