Dia-6.1. Facing laureate and armored half-length bust of Peter I in a richly adorned mantle, holding scepter; Reverse: St. George on horseback slaying dragon, bombardment of Azov and Perecop in background, legend above and three line inscription in exergue. At the time that Peter I (The Great) made his journey to Europe he was the first tsar to leave Russia in more than 100 years and hoped to learn about many different type of technologies.

Since childhood he had an interest in the building of ships, sailing, carpentry and warfare. During his trip he spent much time in England whos ruler, William III, was more than happy to share information and technology with the new tsar in hopes to ramp up trade with Russia. Peter I was given access to all naval and military bases, visited the Royal Observatory at Greenwich for the links to navigation through astronomy, and visited the Royal Mint at the Tower of London. Upon his return to Russia a large ship building program was established which led the country to become a large and successful naval power.

High relief with excellent strike defining the minute details. Cleaned long ago now attractively toned with slate gray in the protected areas giving a nice contrast to the fine details..PCGS SP-53 Secure Holder..PCGS #617315..
