"T CAES VESPASIAN IMP PON TR POT COS [II]" Laureate head of Titus facing right; Reverse: "IVDAEA CAPTA" Palm tree, Titus to left standing facing right with spear and parazonium, foot on helmet, Judaea seated at right in attitude of mourning, "S - C" in exergue. A small amount of silver has been added and countermarked just behind the bust, the mark indicates this pieces provenance to the famed Este Collection. This collection was curated by the Gonzaga family of Mantua in Italy, formed in the fifteenth century by Leonello dEste. This family was renowned for their patronage of the arts and deep interest in the Classics. Now this mark allows for the establishing of a provenance that extends nearly half a millennia. A bold portrait on a well rounded flan, great strike details. Minor verdigris.
