A beautifully toned example, the obverse is awash in rich steel gray while the reverse is layered in a blend of more vivid antique copper and olive-gray. DeWitt asserts that this piece is non-contemporary because the 19 mm diameter (the same as that of the U.S. Mint Indian cent) was not in use in 1844. Satterlee, on the other hand, listed it as contemporary to the 1844 campaign. Silver is certainly the rarest metallic composition of this type.,,,Ex Wayte Raymond; F.C.C.
