Arriving in Veracruz in late May that same year, there never was a "Camelot" or honeymoon period, with staunch resistance from liberal forces led by President Benito Juarez encountered as soon as he arrived. It stands to reason given his arrival in mid-year, that the coin offered here was struck at some point in the second half of 1864. Clearly a piece that was set aside when made, well struck and richly toned.
