The China General Omnibus Company Limited Shanghai was registered in Hong Kong, but all of its business was done in Shanghai. J. A. Fredericks was a British national that founded the "C.G.O. Co. Ltd". The companys first line opened to the public in October 1924. The first line was from the Bund to Jingan Temple. The company introduced the second line in 1934 from Jingan Temple to Hongkou Park. The first series of tokens included: 1 cent, 2 cents and 3 cents, the first two made of brass and the 3 cents made of copper-nickel.
