Dav-8461A; S-5425. Revaluation of 1578, crowned thistle countermark upon a 1566 Ryal of Mary and Darnley. A wonderfully preserved straight graded piece that has never been mounted or subjected to other mistreatment, and highly desirable as such. The deeper recesses of the countermark contain a panorama of different color tone, blue, green, amber to name the most prominent shades. The balance of the coin sports similar deep toning, with an amalgam of color coming together to create an overall dark though quite pleasant coloration. Wear is present, but is modest, particularly for the assigned grade. The great strike and centering alone produces a coin that is remarkable on many levels, add in the scarcity factor and you have a coin worthy of serious consideration.NGC VF-30.
