SBG Cop-382. Laureate head of Hannibal (Melkart?) left; Reverse: War elephant advancing right, in exergue Punic letter "aleph". A piece of enormous historical importance, evoking the incredible tale of Hannibal invading Italy with war elephants overland through the Alps. Very well preserved and nicely toned. It was previously thought that the portrait on this coin was that of Melkart. Many numismatic scholars now believe that it is that of Hannibal. A choice and desirable piece destined for a place of honor in the next collection it calls home.NGC EF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 3/5.
