Offering great RARITY, this otherwise unassuming minor denomination emanates from a rather small output in the leadup to the Boxer Rebellion. Just two other denominations (Dollar and 5 Cents) were minted at Chihli in this particular year, with the fractions being particularly difficult to encounter. In fact, this represents the first such occurrence of the year and denomination in one of our sales since an NGC VF Details realized an impressive-for-the-time hammer of $9,000 in our December 2010 Hong Kong Auction (Lot # 114)--<em>a stunning decade-and-a-half ago</em>. As such, the importance of the present, exceptionally original piece cannot be overstated.
