Idaho City, Idaho Territory. (B.M. DuRell & Co.) Payable at the First National Bank of Idaho. 186x $20. PMG Very Fine 30 EPQ. Remainder.No. 124. Evidence of technical circulation consistent with the middle of the grading spectrum may be observed, but this piece never technically circulated in the literal sense owing to the lack of signatures typical of Remainders. Here a portrait of George Washington may be encountered at left along the margin opposite the title block at center which displays a desirable Territorial imprint along with a small vignette of the Treasury Building in Washington directly below. Notes from this emission largely acted as bearer notes, but higher denominations are believed to have functioned as "certificates of deposit" used for larger transactions. This specific denomination (and note) was cataloged as a "High Rarity 6" in Ford with an estimated population that numbers around less than 10 pieces. Very rare and certain to please more than the collector of Obsoletes or period scrip as this note was also payable at the First National Bank of Idaho (Charter# 1668) in Boise which records no Territorial notes in the National Bank Note Census. Noted for "Exceptional Paper Quality" by PMG.From the Caine Collection.<p>Ex. John Johnston; Stacks sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Parts XX & XXI, October 2007, Lot 3092.
