1788 Massachusetts Cent. Ryder 15-M, W-6400. Rarity-5-. Period After MASSACHUSETTS. VF-25 (PCGS).147.3 grains. This well balance VF remains boldly defined in the presence of moderate wear, the strike well centered and nicely executed. Both sides are impressively smooth in hand with some nice gloss, minor roughness requiring magnification to discern; the thin planchet crack at 1 oclock relative to the obverse is as made. A scarcer variety that was unknown to Ryder and is generally represented in collections today by a Fine or occasionally Very Fine specimen. This one is nicer than many seen at the latter grade level and is sure to catch the eye of specialists.PCGS# 688358. BASE PCGS# 948.
