Fr. 222. 1891 $1 Silver Certificate. PMG Superb Gem Uncirculated 67 EPQ.Seen with frequency thanks to a substantial population of circulated specimens. Examples of this particular Friedberg Number are nonetheless a rare sight at this end of the grading spectrum. This specimen graded by PMG is set to offer bidders the chance to acquire something rarely ever offered. Examples of this Friedberg Number graded by PMG at this grade level are extremely rare owing to the fact that only two examples (including this specimen) are listed at this grade in the entire PMG Population Report. Here one may look upon boardwalk margins that look as if they could induce a paper cut through sight alone and serve to frame the engraved and overprinted elements of the design highlighting the portrait of Martha Washington engraved by Charles Burt seen at left. Although redesigned to allow for more open space unlike the Series of 1886, the back design retains a remarkable level of color and detail exemplified by the large "1" counters seen to the left and right of the obligation. This very arrangement is further magnified by the uncommon nature of the grade assigned that also speaks to evident embossing that can be observed under examination and a level of eye appeal that cannot be surmised through mere words. For the collector seeking to represent this Friedberg Number with an exceptional specimen they could not ask for anything better and such a statement is bound to be a prophetic one before the hammer even falls. PMG Pop 2/None Finer.
