DENMARK. Søsling, ND (1396-1439). Lund Mint. Erik of Pomerania. NGC VF Details--Holed.Galster-11; Sieg-13.1; Bruun-3711. Weight: 1.31 gms. This rare type, known as "Queen Philippas Søsling", has a nice strike for the issue, with especially well-defined lions in the shield.
It was issued by the queen in accordance with the Hanseatic decree of October 8th, 1424, while King Erik was away on travels.
The Latin title, "DEI GRATIA", appears here for the first time on a Danish coin. Either in full or in an abbreviated form, it became a standard part of all Danish coin legends up until the late 19th century, indicating that the king was appointed "by the grace of God".From the L. E. Bruun Collection.
