1822 France - United States Treaty of Navigation and Commerce Medal. Paris Mint. Betts-Unlisted, Loubat-52, Collignon-363. Copper. Specimen-63 (PCGS). Collector Ink. With Original Case.50.0 mm. 42.90 grams. The edge style is not noted on the PCGS holder, although those areas visible are plain. If this is a plain edge piece, it is likely of mid 19th century vintage. The numbers 37. / 67 are inked in the left reverse field. This is a lovely example, frosty to semi-reflective in finish with dominant medium brown color to both sides. Lighter sandy-gold tinting lines the upper and right reverse borders, where it has a gently mottled distribution. Fully struck with no marks or other blemishes of note. The circular, fitted case with maroon leather exterior, dark purple plush interior is likewise well preserved. It shows only light exterior chipping at the hinge and has a functional clasp. The commerce treaty celebrated on this medal was signed by Baron Hyde de Neuville, representing Louis XVIII of France, and John Quincy Adams, representing the James Monroe and the United States.
