1857-O Liberty Seated Quarter. Briggs 4-B. MS-64 (PCGS). CAC.A richly original example that is tied with only one other as the finest certified 1857-O quarter stickered by CAC. Both sides exhibit blushes of iridescent reddish-orange and champagne-apricot iridescence that are bolder and more extensive on the reverse. Frosty and smooth in texture, and uncommonly sharp in strike with none of the characteristic (for the issue) softness of detail to the central high points.<p>The 1857-O is one of the more frequently encountered New Orleans Mint quarters of the Liberty Seated design type, but the vast majority of survivors are well worn. In Mint State this issue is much rarer than a mintage of 1,180,000 pieces might imply. This is one of the very finest examples that we have ever had the privilege of presenting through auction, and it represents an important bidding opportunity for the advanced collector of Liberty Seated and/or New Orleans Mint coinage.PCGS# 5443.
