CANADA. Bank of Canada. 1 Dollar, 1954. BC-29bA. Devils Face. Replacement. PMG Uncirculated 62 EPQ.Beattie - Coyne signature combination. Replacements of the Devils Face series are very rare, especially in uncirculated grades. Two different signature combinations were printed, but with just 14,400 replacements printed of each signature variety, it is no surprise why this is so challenging to find in replacement format. Of the two varieties, the Coyne - Towers is just a bit more difficult to find, although in uncirculated grades, the difference in rarity is not as big as the Charlton catalog would suggest. The Devils Face series offers a tremendous opportunity for the advanced collector to build a specialized collection of prefixes, replacements, and fancy serial numbers. The notes, so-named because of what appears to be a devil in the Queens hair, have been loved by collectors ever since they were first issued, and now, with the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, we can only see demand increase further. This example is fully original with strong embossing, and its only grade limiting factor is the typical centering, which is skewed just a bit too much for a higher grade. Still, a more than acceptable example of this rare replacement issue.
