Known for its iconic and colorful designs, the Mongolian Dollar was the brainchild of Baron von Ungern-Sternberg, a German-born member of the nobility also known as the Mad or Bloody Baron. After fighting in the Russian Civil War he would play a pivotal role in the independence of Mongolia and its establishment as a sovereign nation. The Baron would not see the results of his efforts, however, as he was arrested by the Russians and executed in 1921. These notes were issued a few years later, using the Barons suggested currency.<p> <p>The 50 Cents is, despite being the smallest value, one of the keys to the set and missing from many such sets seen in the marketplace today. Like the rest of the series it is believed to have been printed in Russia by Goznak, although exact details remain unclear.
