1818 (ca. 1824) Isaac Shelby Battle of the Thames Medal. Original. Julian MI-21. White Metal. MS-62 (NGC).65 mm. An exceptional example, almost completely untoned with semi-reflective silver gray fields. Only minor friction evident on the highest points of the design, and a few contact marks, the latter almost unavoidable on the soft metal impression such as this. Trivial spotting in the right obverse field and on the reverse rim at about 4 oclock. The collaring mark just right of 12 oclock on the rim and the perfect state of the dies indicate that this is a very early striking, ca. 1824. The dramatic battle scene on the reverse depicts the body of famed Native American Chief Tecumseh in the field between the opposing armies.Ex Fred Fried; Paul Boscos Auction 22 of November 2000, lot 646; our Baltimore Auction of March 2018, lot 519.
