(t) CHINA. Chekiang. Silver 1 Mace 4.4 Candareens (20 Cents) Pattern, ND (1902). Birmingham (Heaton) Mint. Kuang-hsu (Guangxu). PCGS SPECIMEN-67. (t)This lot was manufactured in China (including Hong Kong), Russia or Republic of Belarus and was sourced from outside the United States for this auction after tariffs were enacted by the United States. Standing rather unsurprisingly as the finest example of an EXTREMELY RARE type in the PCGS census, this incredibly impressive and enticing minor presents all of the artistic flair and craftsmanship that one would associate with the Heaton Mint in Birmingham. The fields feature a mirror sheen that radiates nearly flawlessly, with razor sharp devices and design aspects, some subtle frostiness imparted therein, and some light golden-almond hints sprinkled enchantingly throughout. In the opinion of this cataloger, superior to the Norman Jacobs example--an NGC SP-67 that more recently realized a total of $78,000 in August 2011. As such, one can only imagine the dizzying heights to which this lofty example could soar.
