DENMARK. Penny, ND (1035-1042). Lund Mint. Harthacnut (Hardeknud). NGC Unc Details--Peck Marked.Hauberg-2; Hauberg Collection-502; Malmer-14.801.1603; Bruun-1394; Weight: 0.85 gms. Moneyer: Alfward. A stunning example with a razor sharp strike on a completely even flan.
This excessively rare type is especially interesting because the obverse with the four-lined horizontal legend is one of the earliest examples of a Danish type being inspired by Byzantine issues such as the Miliaresia from the late 10th century. The reverse was also used in combination with the Nordic serpent type. From the L. E. Bruun Collection.
